Reflections- Term 3

Introduction

Welcome! This Term, I am going to share with you the lessons, what I learnt, my Term Test results( yay!!) and finally my Reflection on the Laboratory Lessons.

Lessons in Term 3

-Cells
-Respiration
-Photosynthesis
-How to Determine if a leaf contains starch

What I learnt from my lessons

Even though the topics in this Term was taught to me in Primary 6, I still learnt many other new things and got to revise on the topics. For the topic Cells, in Primary 6 I learnt about the cell wall, chloroplasts, cytoplasm, nucleus, cell membrane and the vacuoles. In Term 3 of Secondary 1, I learnt many other cell parts such as the ribosomes, cell envelope, mitochondrion, chromatin, nucleolus and much more. In Respiration, I learnt deeper into the topic in Secondary 1 than in Primary 6. I learnt different kinds of respiration, such as anaerobic respiration, aerobic respiration and tissue respiration. In photosynthesis, I learnt that plants take in carbon dioxide (6 co2), water(6 h2o) and through the process of photosynthesis with sunlight, they make glucose (c6h12o6)+ oxygen (6 o2). This also allows me to revise my compound lessons in Term 2 and I also understood about the compound 'sugar'. Last but not least, for the determination if starch is present, I learnt that we can use an iodine test to determine. However, before that step, there are many other steps needed, such as boiling and immersing in alcohol. If the colour turns blue black, starch is present. If it remains yellowish brown, than starch is absent.

Term 3 Test Results

For Term 3, I learnt my lesson and studied and revised thoroughly and managed to get 30 1/2 out of 40. That was a great improvement from 20/40 in Term 2. I hope that I can maintain my marks for the EOY Exams.

Reflection on Laboratory Lessons

In Term 3, I enjoyed the experiments in School. I got to observe cheek cells and onion cells, which let me understand the topic better and know for myself how they look like. I also got to test for starch in leaves, which is very interesting. All in all, these experiments are very useful and interesting.
